Woodsy Calgary Micro Wedding
Britt and Owen were my very first Calgary micro wedding. A term that many of us had never even heard of until recently. Britt is a healthcare worker (thank you endlessly for your selfless hard work) and knew that Covid wasn’t going away anytime soon. With their original plans out the window they decided that they couldn’t wait to be married and went ahead with their original date. They bought a little cake from their favourite neighbourhood bakery, pre-ordered takeout from Earls and set up their patio for a socially distanced dinner with their parents and best friends after the ceremony. They exchanged their vows in the woods at one of my favourite Calgary parks with their pup Louise at their feet and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
You’ve likely heard me preaching about how much better of an alternative a micro wedding or elopement is than postponing indefinitely or cancelling altogether. Just in case these photos don’t convince you how beautiful and intimate a micro wedding can be, here are some words from the bride:
“Although it was a very uncomfortable time, deciding to re-invent our wedding and go ahead with our plan to get married was probably the best decision we have made as a couple. Yes, it was stressful trying to envision a "new" day when we literally spent months planning the original, however it really made us realize what matters most on your wedding day...YOU and your person saying yes to forever. There was way less pressure the day of, not as tight of a schedule, and overall more relaxed and authentic. Yes, we were devastated to not have all of our loved ones present, but we completely had a new appreciation for why people choose to elope (and there were still many options of how to share the day with family and friends). You literally get to do whatever you want, like have your dog wander around. We will forever remember the day as it is a great story of "love in the time of corona" (and it couldn't stop us from getting married).”
